1935: The successful development of fiber nylon marked the formal entry of polymer synthetic materials into the field of engineering applications, laying the foundation for the birth of plastic gears.

 

Afterwards, due to its advantages such as lightweight, low noise, self-lubrication, and corrosion resistance, plastic began to be used to manufacture gears, mainly for low-load and low-precision scenarios, such as toys and simple instruments.

 

In the past two decades, with the successful development and modification of high-strength, high-wear-resistant and other high-performance engineering plastics, plastic gears have developed towards bearing higher loads, and their applications have been further broadened. In many fields such as automobiles and home appliances, there has been a trend of "replacing steel with plastic". In terms of standardization, the first national standard of China's plastic gear industry, "GB/T38192-2019 Precision System for Injection Molded Plastic Cylindrical Gears", was released in 2019, filling the domestic gap [2]. In 2024, the national standard "GB/T 44846-2024 Calculation of Load Capacity of Plastic Gears" was released, which together with the precision standard constituted the basic standard system of plastic gears.
